These have been reclaimed from redundant military equipment - they just looked too useful to throw away - you don't often see stuff like this anymore.
They are a large heavy duty probe of some sort - a very heavy insulated handle which we think is manufactured from an early nylon, or it could possibly be Bakelite, with a large metal probe extending from it. The metal probe also has a lug attached to it enabling the probe to be bolted down if necessary.
The body of the unit measures approximately 120mm in length x 30mm x 35mm cross section, and the probe extends from the body by approximately 65mm and is about 10mm in diameter to a machined point.
The weight is about 250g.
